Buena Vista and Fourmile, Colorado
This is an area they call the banana belt in Colorado.....
I left Steamboat Springs in the morning and it was in the thirties and
raining, I arrived
here and it was clear skies and in the sixties so I guess they are
right, it was in late Sept and the weather was gorgeous the whole week I
was there. There are a several ATV Dirt Bike and off-road trails in the Fourmile area
and several places to camp, both commercial campgrounds and FS campgrounds
with no facilities. The Fourmile area with the ATV and dirt bike trails reminds me a little
of Utah with the desert like conditions and big rocks. The nice thing
about here is there are several dual sport rides as well. There is a
nice ride up to St Elmo and then over Tin Cup Pass a Jeep trail to Tin
Cup.... Then north to Taylor Park Reservoir and come back on Cottonwood
Pass into Buena Vista. I meet a friend trail riding the area and we tried
to ride it late in the week but ran into a chilly rain in the mountains
and decided to turn around. Too bad cause it was really a cool ride. There
were a few ATV trails that branched off the main drag that we rode for a while
just east of St Elmo that were really rocky and fun. Here is a trail map
of the Fourmile area in Adobe PDF.
Be sure and check out all my pictures.

Fourmile 1
Mostly Easy ATV trail with a couple of
advanced parts with rocks..... Reminds one of Utah with the rides
through the big rocks and boulders. There is a series of tunnels just
north of this trailhead a few hundred yards that are cool to ride
through. I guess this road used to be a train track and the tunnels
were for the choo-choo.

This is a really cool trail, not super difficult
but can be challenging in spots. I would call it advanced, but
there may be a spot or two that could be considered expert. Don't
worry though you can get through it.
